BIO-CYCLE — Copernicus Data for Circular Nutrient Management on Mediterranean Farms
Mediterranean agriculture still manages nutrients in a linear way: excess synthetic fertiliser drives nitrate leaching and soil degradation, while manure, compost and crop residues remain underused. BIO-CYCLE, led by Andreas Vasiliou Agronomist Ltd, tests whether Copernicus downstream data — Sentinel-2 vegetation indices, soil moisture, land surface temperature and rainfall/evapotranspiration — combined with local agronomic records can identify parcel-level nutrient demand, safer application windows and opportunities to redistribute organic nutrients from surplus to deficit parcels. Aridex is the External Service Provider.
Objectives
Combine Copernicus data for the pilot area with the company’s agronomic records and document the nutrient-demand mapping and nitrate leaching-risk logic.
Define the circular nutrient-redistribution concept and assess its technical, environmental and operational feasibility.
Size target segments, benchmark comparable precision-agriculture offerings and set out pricing and go-to-market in a draft business model.
