AQUALEAK-EO — Satellite-Enabled Risk Intelligence for Large-Scale Water Distribution Networks

Water utilities in climate-stressed regions lack scalable, early-stage evidence of where their underground networks are most at risk. AQUALEAK-EO, led by K.P. Innoserv Ltd (Nicosia), assessed whether downstream Copernicus data can support feasibility-level risk intelligence for a representative pipeline corridor, combining Sentinel-2 moisture observations, Sentinel-1 SAR/InSAR screening and Copernicus Land context data in a GIS-based risk classification. Aridex was the External Service Provider for all four contracted services.

Objectives

Analyse a 24-month Sentinel-2 time series for one study corridor and produce Sentinel-1 and Copernicus Land context layers.

Deliver a three-class risk map, a design-level GIS dashboard mock-up and a comparison of conventional and EO-informed inspection prioritisation.

Benchmark customer segments and competing approaches, consult stakeholders and map the funding and scale-up roadmap for the next validation stage.
